Not all bass fishing rigs are created equal, that is just a fact of life. You can go and buy the most expensive rig in a shop and you won’t do as well on some stretches of river as someone who spent nothing but fishes there all season long.
The beauty of fishing is that you can not always buy your way to success. There is a large element of skill (and some would say luck) involved in fishing for bass. Sure having a variety of bass fishing rigs will give you a better chance of succeeding but nothing can guarantee success.
Part of the fun of fishing is to pit your wits against not just the fish but other fishermen. Experience is definitely a big help as you find that you will be able to spot the areas where fish will lay and your experience will tell you when it is time to pack up and go home.
When you have purchased a number of bass fishing rigs off the shelf you will then realize that none of them are perfect for your situation. That is when the fun starts, you will feel far more pride when you have caught a prize winning fish that you caught using a bass lure that you made yourself in your own garden shed.
Making your own lures during the off season really does make fishing for bass into a year round hobby. You can even teach your children or grandchildren to make lures, in many instances their small fingers will find it easier to manipulate the parts that you use.
If you become particularly good at making lures then you could even start your own business selling them. Many fishermen are only too happy to pay for a unique item that is hand made and no one else will ever have.
