Best New Mobiles On The Market In 2011

This year sees the release of several new mobile phones expected to make a splash. The most important news in the industry at the moment is the rise of Android. The majority of new mobiles purchased in the smartphone class in the last six months are equipped with the high-powered Google software, signaling the end of the dominance of Apple, who had previously set the standard for smartphones since the release of their tremendously successful iPhone in 2007. In response to Apple’s dominance Samsung, LG, Motorola, and a host of other smaller mobile phone companies, as well as electronics giants such as Dell, have backed the Android software as the best challenger to the iPhone, a move which, it would now seem, has succeeded. Of these, perhaps the most exciting of new release available in 2011 is Samsung’s Google Nexus S. Tremendously powerful, equipped with the most cutting-edge Android software, and packed bonus features, this is certainly the smartphone to watch out for in the coming year.

Of course, traditional mobiles still represent a significant portion of the market. Indeed, recent statistics show that, despite all the hype surrounding the rise of smartphones, only 62 million of more than 300 million new mobiles sold globally in the second quarter of 2010 were smartphones. Traditional mobiles are providing a more flexible and affordable option for those who are unwilling to be tied-in to the long contracts required by most smartphone providers. One such option is the Motorola i886, which comes equipped with email access, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, as well as the now-standard camera, media player, Bluetooth and GPS features. Another, more basic model is the LG Select, which includes a camera and Bluetooth connectivity. These and several other new releases expected over the coming months show that the market for new mobile is far from closed to non smartphones.
