Potatoes Cooked In A Crock Pot Are Healthy

It seems that today many people are more concerned with the convenience of their food rather than how healthy it is. In the United States there is an epidemic of people that suffer from obesity and diabetes. If more people were to eat potatoes they would actually become healthier.

It turns out that the potato is already one of the healthiest foods on the planet. It is jam packed with B6 and C vitamins. It contains the nutrients of zinc, fiber, magnesium, and potassium. Every man, women, and child will consume over 120 pounds of potatoes each year in the USA.

So if the potato is so healthy and so many people are already eating so much of it why are there so many health problems amongst the general population? The answer lies with how the spud is cooked and what is added to it. You can easily take something that is naturally good for you and make it unhealthy with the addition of just a few of the wrong toppings.

If you were to cook an easy potato soup crock pot style and not add any bacon, cheese, or meat to the recipe you would wind up with a nutritious bowl of food. Unfortunately people will add these other items and make the soup a fattening dish that can contribute to a host of other diseases including diabetes.

Lots of health conscious people will cook using crock pot recipes because it is a very healthy way to go. For instance cooking a potato in a crock pot is much healthier than deep frying the same potato. It would also be a better choice to cook a spud in the oven rather than in a skillet with melted butter.

The potato can be a very healthy food if you prepare it correctly or it can be unhealthy if you make unwise decisions on how to cook it.
