Tips on How to Stop your Beagle Biting

Categorized: pets | 1 comment

Beagle biting is a major concern that a responsible dog owner should take steps to prevent. It may not just be a problem for the owner, it can be a problem of the whole family as well, or even the community if the beagle has bitten someone seriously. Stopping your beagle biting immediately will not just ensure your family’s safety but the safety of anyone coming into contact with your dog. The following tips will help you stop beagle biting effectively.

1. As early as possible, let your beagle know that biting someone is not good. Never shout at him though. To tell him correctly, use a firm tone when saying “Bad” or “No”. Use the same tone every time he attempts to bite someone. Eventually, he will understand that what he is doing is not right.

2. Do not play games that encourage your beagle to bite or nip. It is the nature of beagles to bite at each other when they are playing. Therefore, when you play with them, they often bite your arms softly. Their intention is not to hurt or harm you but sometimes accidents happen. Their teeth are sharp so the best thing to do is to avoid games that will encourage them to bite. Try games that involve running, or bringing an item for you. For instance, you can throw a ball at a certain distance then let your beagle dog fetch that for you.

3. In case your beagle accidentally bites you, address the action immediately. The common mistake of dog owners is that they try to hurt the dog when they are bitten. Their act of aggression does not stop their beagle from biting. It may even trigger him to bite more when hurt. So, to properly deal with the action, do not strike or kick your dog back. The best thing that you can do is to hold his mouth firmly yet gently and tell the word “NO” or “BAD”.
