When do I need temporary car insurance?

It’s not a part of anyone’s usual cross-check when planning for a trip outside your normal haunt without your own car, but temporary car insurance is a key consideration. It’s difficult to know when and if you need to make any temporary insurance arrangements for your trip, so we’ll clear up some confusion.
First, temporary car insurance is a policy provision that covers you against liability, damages, and personal injury incurred in the event of a car accident you experience while you’re driving a borrowed or rented car. It can be part of an existing personal car insurance policy you have for a car that you own, or temporary car insurance can be a separate policy that you purchase for a short duration while you’re on a vacation or work assignment in a different city.
If you’re a regular driver, it’s likely that your existing car insurance policy covers you for liability and personal injury while you rent or borrow another person’s car. What may not be as clear is the extent to which any damage expenses arising from any harm you do to your friend’s car will be paid for by your insurance, so it’s best for your chum to have his own damages insurance with a guest-driver clause.
If your existing policy won’t cover you while you’re borrowing or renting, you can find relatively inexpensive temporary car insurance policies online. If you’re going to be driving more than one car while you’re away, be sure that you look in to multi car insurance clause for your temporary car insurance policy.
It’s not something people normally add to their trip planning checklist, but it is extremely important to ensure that you won’t be open to enormous liability and damages expenses in the unfortunate event of an accident while driving someone else’s car.
